Royal Challengers Bengaluru finished first with 18 points from nine wins and five defeats. Their +0.783 NRR separated them from two other teams on the same points and wins. They then won the final to retain the title.

How the IPL 2026 league stage worked
The IPL standings combine all ten teams in one league table, even though the fixtures are arranged in two groups of five. Group A contained Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Group B contained Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Each side played the other four teams in its own group once, and the five teams in the opposite group twice. That gives four matches within the group and ten across the groups: fourteen league matches per team. The groups organised the fixture list; they did not create separate qualification tables or reserve playoff places for either group.
With ten teams playing fourteen times, there are 140 team appearances. Each fixture involves two teams, so that is 70 league matches. Four playoff games took the completed season to 74 matches, running from 28 March to 31 May 2026. The previously discussed expansion to 84 matches did not happen in this season, according to the season article.
The top four in the combined table advanced. The first two places offered the Qualifier 1 route, while third and fourth entered the Eliminator. This makes both the qualification line and the order within the top four meaningful: finishing second offers a different route to the final from finishing third.

IPL standings 2026: who qualified and why
Four places.
Every point matters.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals qualified for the IPL 2026 playoffs. The first three all finished with 18 points and nine wins. With both measures equal, their net run rates decided the order: RCB +0.783, GT +0.695 and SRH +0.524. RCB and GT therefore took the two Qualifier 1 places, with SRH entering the Eliminator.
Rajasthan’s eight wins produced 16 points and the fourth qualifying position. Punjab Kings ended fifth with 15 points from seven wins and a no result. Punjab actually had the higher NRR, +0.309 against Rajasthan’s +0.189. That did not change the outcome, because a better net run rate only helps when teams have already tied on points and wins. There was no tie on points at the qualification line.
The same principle explains the next two positions. Delhi Capitals had 14 points and a −0.651 NRR; Kolkata Knight Riders had 13 points and a −0.147 NRR. Kolkata’s better rate did not move them above Delhi. Chennai Super Kings followed on 12 points, while Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants both finished on eight.
How points are awarded in the IPL
“2 points for each match won; 1 point per team taking part in any match with no result or any match which is tied (where it was not possible to complete a Super Over, or subsequent Super Overs). 1 point per team for any match involving such team which does not commence for any reason (other than … forfeiting such match); and 0 points for any match lost or forfeited.”IPL 2026 Playing Conditions, clause 16.10.1 — excerpt
A win adds two points; a loss adds none. Where there is no result, each team receives one point. The same one-point treatment applies to an unresolved tie when the required Super Overs cannot be completed. This is why the points column does not always contain an even number.
Punjab Kings won seven times in 2026: fourteen points from wins, plus one from a no result, for fifteen overall. Kolkata Knight Riders had six wins and one no result, giving thirteen points. RCB’s nine wins produced eighteen. Playoff wins do not add league points.

Tie-breakers: wins first, then net run rate
- PointsStart with the total
- WinsFirst tie-break
- NRRIf wins are equal
- Wickets per fair ballIn matches with a result
- Draw of lotsIf still equal
The official sequence is more precise than “points, then NRR”. Clause 16.10.2 of the 2026 Playing Conditions first separates teams by the number of league wins. Only when teams have equal points and equal wins does net run rate decide the order. If NRR is also equal, the next measure is wickets taken per fair ball bowled in matches with a result. A draw of lots is the final step.
The distinction matters when no results contribute to a points total. Two teams can reach the same number of points through different combinations of wins and shared points. The team with more wins takes priority at that stage; its NRR need not be the higher one. The comparison tool above includes LSG and KKR in 2025 to make that difference visible.
For the top three in 2026, the first tie-break did not separate anyone. RCB, GT and SRH each had nine wins alongside eighteen points. NRR was therefore the deciding measure, placing RCB first. The coloured bars compare that one statistic; their lengths do not represent win probabilities or a forecast of the next match.
All 10 teams in 2026 at a glance
Gujarat Titans finished second with 18 points and a +0.695 NRR. Their league position earned a place in Qualifier 1. After losing that match, they won Qualifier 2 and reached the final, where RCB beat them.
Sunrisers Hyderabad took third with 18 points and a +0.524 NRR. Nine wins put them level with the top two, but the lower rate sent them into the Eliminator. Rajasthan Royals ended their campaign in that match.
Rajasthan Royals secured fourth with 16 points, eight wins and a +0.189 NRR. They beat SRH in the Eliminator before losing Qualifier 2 to Gujarat Titans. Their league points, rather than their NRR, kept Punjab outside the top four.
Punjab Kings finished fifth on 15 points: seven wins and one no result. Their +0.309 NRR was higher than Rajasthan’s, but a one-point deficit took priority. They were the closest team outside the four qualifying places.
Delhi Capitals finished sixth with 14 points from seven wins and seven defeats. A −0.651 NRR did not put them below Kolkata because Delhi had one more point. Their final three results in the source snapshot are wins.
Kolkata Knight Riders placed seventh on 13 points, with six wins, seven losses and one no result. Their −0.147 NRR was stronger than Delhi’s, but could not overcome the points gap. The no result contributed their thirteenth point.
Chennai Super Kings ended eighth on 12 points, winning six and losing eight. Their −0.345 NRR was not the lowest in the competition, but positions are decided on points first. They finished four points below Rajasthan’s qualifying total.
Mumbai Indians finished ninth with eight points from four wins. Their −0.584 NRR put them above Lucknow after both teams ended with identical wins and losses. Neither team was close enough on points to challenge the final qualifying place.
Lucknow Super Giants finished tenth on eight points, with four wins and ten losses. A −0.740 NRR separated them from Mumbai on the same record. Their league campaign ended at the foot of the final 2026 standings.

GT219/3
RR 214/6

GT 155/8
The first two league positions led to Qualifier 1. RCB scored 254/5 against Gujarat Titans’ 162 in Dharamshala on 26 May, winning by 92 runs and booking a direct place in the final. Gujarat still had a second route because they had finished in the top two.
The Eliminator offered no such second chance. Rajasthan Royals made 243/8 against Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 196 in Mullanpur on 27 May, winning by 47 runs. SRH’s season ended despite their eighteen league points; Rajasthan moved on to face Gujarat.
In Qualifier 2 on 29 May, GT chased Rajasthan’s 214/6 with 219/3, winning by seven wickets. Shubman Gill scored 104, according to the supplied season dossier. Gujarat therefore reached the final after losing Qualifier 1, illustrating the value of the top-two route.
The final was played in Ahmedabad on 31 May. RCB reached 161/5 in 18 overs after GT made 155/8, winning by five wickets. It was RCB’s second successive title. These four matches decided the championship; their scores did not change the league table or its final NRR figures.

Points table history: switch any season
Use the season selector above the standings to move from 2026 back to the inaugural 2008 competition. The rows update on this page without changing its address. Choose a column heading to sort, then select “Official order” to return to the published positions. The season label above the table tells you which edition you are reading; the surrounding season review remains about 2026.
There is an important difference between topping the IPL team standings and winning the title. In 2025, Punjab Kings finished first on 19 points and RCB second on 19, with Punjab ahead on NRR. RCB then won the final by six runs. Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians completed the top four. Mumbai had the season’s best NRR, +1.142, but their 16 points kept them fourth.
Older editions also show names that are no longer used. Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevils remain under their historical names in the relevant seasons. Deccan Chargers, Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Pune Warriors India are not relabelled as current franchises. This keeps each snapshot faithful to the competition it describes.

How this table is updated
The figures on this page come from the official IPL points-table feed. The final 2026 snapshot was retrieved on 5 October 2026; the precise time appears beneath the table in Indian Standard Time. Checks cover the ten teams, unique positions, points totals and the balance of wins and losses. Net run rate is taken directly from the official NRR field, rather than rebuilt from season run aggregates that may include playoff matches.
This design preview uses saved snapshots. Automatic updates and a live editorial monitoring service are not active here. The planned production process checks the source every 30 minutes on match days, validates a new snapshot before publishing it and keeps the last verified table if the source fails. That schedule will be described as operational only after it is connected and checked.
Read the data methodology. “IPL points table today” currently means the completed 2026 league standings. A new calendar year alone does not reset these rows or turn them into a zero-point 2027 table.
Updates
— Preview prepared with the official final 2026 standings. Nineteen seasons are available in the selector; 2008–2011 use labelled secondary-source records. The page now includes the league format, qualification comparisons, point rules and season review. These changes do not alter the official 2026 positions.
FAQ
QUICK ANSWERSWho is on top of the IPL 2026 points table?
Royal Challengers Bengaluru finished first with 18 points from 14 matches (9 wins, 5 losses) and a net run rate of 0.783. Gujarat Titans (0.695) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (0.524) also had 18 points and 9 wins, so net run rate decided the order under clause 16.10.2.2 of the 2026 Playing Conditions.
Which teams qualified for the IPL 2026 playoffs?
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals (16 points). Punjab Kings missed out by a single point with 15, even though their net run rate of 0.309 was better than Rajasthan's 0.189 — points always come before NRR.
How many points do you get for a win in the IPL?
Two points for a win, none for a loss. A no result, or a tie where a Super Over could not be completed, gives each team one point, and so does a match that never starts (clause 16.10.1). In 2026 Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders each picked up one point from a no result.
What happens if two IPL teams finish level on points?
The team with more wins ranks higher. If wins are also equal, net run rate decides; then wickets taken per fair ball bowled in matches with a result; and finally a draw of lots (clauses 16.10.2.1–16.10.2.4). Playoff matches do not count towards the league table.
How often is this IPL points table updated?
The 2026 table is final. This preview uses a saved official snapshot retrieved on 5 October 2026, with its time shown below the table. Automatic match-day updates are not active in this preview. The planned live service will check every 30 minutes on match days and retain the last verified snapshot if the source becomes unavailable.

RCB finished first in the IPL points table 2026 and then won the championship. Three teams reached eighteen points, with wins also equal, so net run rate decided their league order. Rajasthan claimed fourth on sixteen points; Punjab’s better NRR could not make up a one-point deficit. Those comparisons explain the season more clearly than a single column on its own.
