IPL Purple Cap 2026: Kagiso Rabada, 29 wickets
Kagiso Rabada's 29 wickets gave Gujarat Titans the 2026 Purple Cap, in the official BCCI/CricViz competition statistics collected for this build. A year earlier, Prasidh Krishna had taken the same award with 25 wickets for GT. The two winners make this a story of consecutive seasons for one franchise, not consecutive awards for one individual.
Gujarat finished the 2026 league in second place on 18 points with an NRR of +0.695. Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad also had 18 points and nine wins, so NRR separated the three. That league position gave GT two possible routes to the final.
The first route closed in Qualifier 1, where RCB won by 92 runs. Gujarat still had another opportunity because they had finished in the top two. They used it by beating Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in Qualifier 2, then faced RCB again in the final.
RCB won the final by five wickets in Ahmedabad on 31 May. Rabada's award therefore belonged to a finalist rather than the champion team. The cap total records his season's wickets; the bracket records the team's progress. Neither should be substituted for the other when describing GT's finish.

The route explains a team outcome, not the allocation of Rabada's wickets across these matches. The supplied winner total does not contain an innings-by-innings bowling log. We do not assign a spell, economy rate or best figures to an individual fixture without its scorecard.
Top 10 wicket-takers of IPL 2026
| Player | Team | Matches | Wickets | Economy | Best figures |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kagiso Rabada | GT | 17 | 29 | 9.68 | 3 for 25 |
| Bhuvneshwar Kumar | RCB | 16 | 28 | 7.95 | 4 for 23 |
| Jofra Archer | RR | 16 | 25 | 9.32 | 3 for 17 |
| Rashid Khan | GT | 17 | 21 | 9.08 | 4 for 33 |
| Anshul Kamboj | CSK | 14 | 21 | 10.53 | 3 for 22 |
| Eshan Malinga | SRH | 13 | 20 | 9.33 | 4 for 32 |
| Mohammed Siraj | GT | 17 | 19 | 9.06 | 3 for 26 |
| Rasikh Dar | RCB | 10 | 19 | 9.46 | 4 for 24 |
| Kartik Tyagi | KKR | 13 | 18 | 9.75 | 3 for 22 |
| Jason Holder | GT | 11 | 17 | 7.57 | 4 for 24 |
Rabada's 29 wickets put him one ahead of Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 28. Jofra Archer followed with 25. The difference between the first two is small in wickets, but a wicket total alone does not describe the cost of those dismissals or the role each bowler played.
Economy measures runs conceded per over; best figures describe a single bowling innings. They add context without changing the total-wickets comparison. Match counts can differ because franchises progressed to different stages, and playing in a match does not always mean delivering an over.
These totals include the completed competition's playoffs and were collected from the official BCCI/CricViz statistics service on 5 October 2026. They should not be confused with a league-only table or a live in-season snapshot. Players tied on wickets retain the source order rather than implying an invented tiebreak.
What is the Purple Cap?
The Purple Cap recognises the leading wicket-taker of an IPL season. It is the bowling counterpart of the Orange Cap for most runs. In 2026 the batting award went to Rajasthan Royals' Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, with 776 runs.
The award does not mean the bowler had the lowest economy rate, the best single innings or the largest career wicket total. Those are separate statistical measures. A wickets column counts dismissals credited to a bowler; an economy column relates runs conceded to overs bowled.
This page discusses final season awards. A running leaderboard during a tournament can change after a match, while the completed award belongs to the finished season. Keep the year attached when comparing cap holders, particularly when two team-mates win in successive years.

This archive uses the leading season total from each of the 19 completed competition feeds. The statistics establish the season leader; they are not a separate award-presentation record. Names and franchise abbreviations are retained from the source, so a subsequent transfer does not move an earlier achievement to a different team.
The source labels the 2010 competition as 2009/10 and the 2020 competition as 2020/21. Here they are mapped to the actual year in which the tournament began. This keeps the archive aligned with the season tables and prevents a cross-year source label from creating a missing or duplicate season.
When totals are tied, the source-derived display orders runs by strike rate and wickets by economy. That presentation is not a claim that this page has independently verified every historical award tie-break. A final league position remains a separate team record, available in the season archive.
2025: Prasidh Krishna, 25 wickets
Prasidh Krishna won the 2025 Purple Cap with 25 wickets for Gujarat Titans. His team-mate Sai Sudharsan won the Orange Cap with 759 runs, giving GT both individual caps that season. The franchise finished third in the league on 18 points.
Those awards are a useful reminder that one team can produce both statistical leaders without being the tournament winner. Team qualification, knockout results and individual aggregate totals run alongside each other; they are not the same competition within the data.
Rabada's 2026 award continued Gujarat's presence at the top of the wicket-taking award list, but it did not make Krishna a repeat winner. The distinction matters when compiling player honours as opposed to counting awards won by a franchise.

A career wicket leaderboard accumulates a player's IPL wickets across seasons and franchises. The Purple Cap resets for each new season. It is therefore possible to have a large career total without winning the cap in the season being discussed, or to win a cap before building a long career.
A career ranking should state its cut-off date. It also needs consistent player identities: spelling differences and a change of team must not split one bowler into several rows. The league's full competition scope, including eligible playoff appearances, must be applied consistently to every player.
The career totals below were independently summed by stable player identity across official competition statistics for 2008–2026, including playoffs. This is a calculation from those dated season feeds, not a separately published official career table. Franchise abbreviations identify all teams represented in the retrieved records.

Keep the cap and the campaign together
Gujarat Titans supplied the Purple Cap winner in both 2025 and 2026: Prasidh Krishna with 25 wickets, then Kagiso Rabada with 29. GT reached the 2026 final through Qualifier 2, but RCB won the title. These are the supported season facts. The official 2026 wicket-taking top ten, nineteen season leaders and calculated career totals are included, and the source notes make that boundary explicit.
