Season dates
No official season window in the 1 October 2026 dossier.
As of 1 October 2026 the IPL 2027 dates are not announced; media report a mini auction in India in the second week of December 2026, the last of the 2023–27 cycle.
Reported window · not an official date
The next season has three different kinds of information: completed historical facts, attributed media reports and announcements that are still missing from the supplied dossier. Those categories are kept separate below. A report about an auction window does not confirm the start of the playing season, and a previous edition's rules do not automatically establish the rules for 2027.
No official season window in the 1 October 2026 dossier.
Outlook India, 19 September 2026.
A reported window, not an official dated fixture.
The same report; a specific city is not confirmed.
Reported as not yet locked in.
No confirmed submission date in the dossier.
2026 rules are not a substitute for a 2027 document.
Champions in 2025 and 2026.
The IPL 2027 start date was not officially announced in the material checked for the 1 October 2026 dossier. Neither a first-match date nor a complete season window is supplied. A blank date here is intentional: putting an estimated day into a calendar would make an unconfirmed event look like an official fixture.
The completed 2026 season ran from 28 March to 31 May. Those dates provide historical context only. They should not be shifted forward by a year to create a 2027 schedule, and the December auction report does not establish when the following season will open.
When an official BCCI or IPL announcement supplies the season window, the status on this page can change from “not announced” to the published dates. Match-level dates, grounds and start times belong on the schedule page, which separates the completed 2026 record from the next season's status. Until that evidence is available, there is no confirmed first fixture to display and no countdown to a guessed opening day.
Decision described in the subsequent media report.
Mini auction, India, second week of December.
Exact date and venue are not confirmed here.
Outlook India reported on 19 September 2026 that the next auction would be a mini auction held in India in the second week of December 2026. The article described it as the final auction in the 2023–27 cycle and connected the decision to a Governing Council meeting on 15 September. All of those auction details are attributed to that report.
The same account said the venue was “not yet locked in”. This page therefore does not name a city, venue or exact auction date. A country and an approximate week leave important practical details unresolved; turning either into a precise calendar event would go beyond the source.
The timeline distinguishes the reported meeting, the publication of the report and the future window discussed in it. Only the publication date identifies when the cited article appeared. The December item is labelled as reported throughout, so readers do not mistake it for an official fixture announcement.
Teams adjust existing squads and fill available places.
Not a full resetA broader rebuilding of squads, under the rules of that cycle.
Not the reported 2027 formatThe available report calls the IPL 2027 auction a mini auction, not a mega auction. In general terms, a mini auction gives teams a chance to adjust squads they largely carry forward, while a mega auction involves a more extensive reshaping of the player pool and squads. That broad distinction explains the terminology; it is not a statement of the detailed 2027 regulations.
No retention limit, purse size, minimum squad size or maximum squad size is specified here. Those are rules that need a relevant official document, rather than numbers borrowed from another auction cycle. Even a familiar auction label does not answer every question about eligibility and squad construction.
The retention deadline was not officially announced in the 1 October 2026 dossier. There is consequently no confirmed list of retained or released players on this page. The team labels above identify the ten teams from the completed 2026 competition; they are not evidence that a particular player will stay with any one of them.
A retention list needs to connect three pieces of information clearly: team, player and published status. Once the relevant official information is available, that structure can show confirmed retained and released players without mixing them with speculation. An absence from an incomplete list should not be interpreted as a release.
The team guide is a reference for the 2026 clubs, not a substitute for 2027 squad announcements. Captains, coaching staff and previous squads may provide background, but they do not confirm a new retention decision. This page deliberately keeps those separate from the pending deadline and player-status information.
Media reports describe the rule as continuing at least through 2027. The 2026 Playing Conditions do not name it explicitly.
2026 actually had 74 matches: 70 in the league and four in the playoffs. The previously discussed 84 did not materialise.
According to media reports cited in the dossier, the Impact Player rule operated in 2026 and was to remain in place at least until the 2027 season. That statement is attributed to reporting. It is not presented as a clause extracted from the 2026 Playing Conditions or as a newly published 2027 rule.
Clause 1.2.1 of the 2026 document refers to nominating “11 players plus a maximum of 5 substitute fielders”. The dossier notes that the text does not name the Impact Player mechanism. The presence of substitute-fielding language alone should therefore not be used to claim that every detail of that mechanism has been verified in the document.
Match count needs the same care. An earlier expansion to 84 matches for 2026 did not take place: the completed season had 74, made up of 70 league matches and four playoffs. That actual count can be checked against the season record. It does not establish either 74 or 84 for 2027.
The next edition's published conditions and programme are the appropriate evidence for its rules and size. Until they are available, this page retains the distinction between what happened in 2026, what media have reported about continuity, and what still needs an official 2027 announcement.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the defending champions after winning in both 2025 and 2026. In the latest final, on 31 May 2026, they beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets in Ahmedabad. That is a completed result, so it belongs in a different category from the pending dates and reported auction arrangements above.
The latest IPL points table shows the final league standings. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's 776 runs earned the Orange Cap, while Kagiso Rabada's 29 wickets earned the Purple Cap, according to the season article in the dossier. The championship archive puts RCB's repeat in context. These records describe the finished season; they are not forecasts of next season's results.
Each future update should identify the announcement, the fact it confirms and the date on which the entry changed. Official BCCI or IPL information can move an item into the confirmed category. Media-only information keeps its source attribution and reported label until stronger evidence resolves it.
The current baseline is the supplied dossier checked on 1 October 2026. This build does not represent a new live search of official announcements. When the 2027 season begins, the page can become a season overview while retaining the distinction between league data, fixtures and historical context. A later season should have its own page rather than silently changing the meaning of this URL. Corrections can be submitted through Contact.
The dates have not been announced. As of 1 October 2026 neither the BCCI nor the IPL had published a season window for 2027. For reference, IPL 2026 ran from 28 March to 31 May 2026; we add the 2027 dates as soon as they are official.
Outlook India reported on 19 September 2026 that the auction will be held in India in the second week of December 2026, after a Governing Council meeting on 15 September. The venue had not been confirmed.
No. According to the same report it is a mini auction and the final auction of the 2023–27 cycle.
According to media reports, the rule was used in 2026 and is to stay in place at least until the 2027 season. The 2026 Playing Conditions text does not name it, so we will confirm once the 2027 conditions are published.
