M = matches, W = wins, L = losses, NR = no result, Pts = points, NRR = net run rate. These are completed league standings, not the order of finish in the knockout stage. Sort a numeric column to compare teams; sort Pos to restore the original order.

A win contributes two points and a no result one. The saved records are checked against those totals. Net run rate compares aggregate scoring and conceding rates; it is not an average of individual match NRR values. The NRR calculator explains the arithmetic and all-out rule. Historical playing-condition documents have not been independently checked for every year, so this archive preserves the source's ranking.

Two different ties

IPL 2025 final standings explained

Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru both finished with 19 points and nine wins. Punjab's +0.372 placed them above RCB's +0.301. Gujarat followed on 18 and Mumbai on 16. Mumbai's +1.142 was the best NRR in the league, but it could not compensate for fewer points. Delhi missed fourth by one point. Lower down, Lucknow and Kolkata both had 12 points, yet Lucknow stood higher despite a worse NRR: six wins beat five, with Kolkata recording two no results. Rajasthan and Chennai had eight points each, and Chennai were last on NRR. RCB subsequently beat Punjab by six runs to win their first title.

The qualification boundary was between Mumbai Indians, fourth on 16 points, and Delhi Capitals, fifth on 15. The gap was 1 point, equivalent to 0.5 wins in the points system. Chennai Super Kings finished at the foot of the table with 8 points from 14 matches.

Champions

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Won by 6 runs

Against Punjab Kings · Narendra Modi, Ahmedabad

Royal Challengers Bengaluru entered the knockout stage from league position 2, with 19 points. Punjab Kings had finished 1 in the league, with 19 points. The final result is recorded separately because knockout wins are not added to the league standings shown above. The top-four league positions identify the qualifying teams; they should not be read as an interpretation of the final result.

This is the season award, not the final's Player of the Match. It also differs from the Orange Cap for most runs and Purple Cap for most wickets. Browse the winners archive to compare team titles and individual season honours.

Final in Ahmedabad

The season ran from 22 March to 3 June 2025. The league record lists 14 fixtures for each of ten teams, which represents 70 matches because every fixture appears in two teams' totals. A no result remains part of that match count; it should not be removed when reconstructing the schedule from the table.

The season paused from 9 May. This archive records that date without attributing a cause: the reasons were not checked against an official source in the supplied research. League figures are final, so the calendar is historical rather than a live fixture feed.

Ahmedabad · 3 June

IPL 2025 playoffs and final

RCB 190/9

6 runs

PBKS 184/7

Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their first IPL title at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Punjab Kings finished six runs short, with 184/7 against RCB's 190/9. Krunal Pandya was Player of the Match and the reported attendance was 91,419.

The final brought the top two league teams back together. Their league records had been identical on points, wins, losses and no results; only NRR had placed Punjab first. The title was decided by the final itself, not by carrying that league advantage forward. Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians were the other qualifiers, while Delhi Capitals' 15 points left them outside the four.

The official match feed supplies all four playoff results below. See the playoff format guide for the distinction between the top-two route and the elimination route, and the champions list for the final result.

2025 vs 2026: how the table changed

RCB moved from second to first and Gujarat from third to second. Hyderabad rose from sixth to third, while Rajasthan made the biggest upward move, from ninth to fourth. Those changes put two teams into the top four that had missed it in 2025. Punjab moved from first to fifth, and Mumbai fell from fourth to ninth.

Delhi went from fifth to sixth, Kolkata from eighth to seventh and Chennai from tenth to eighth. Lucknow moved from seventh to tenth. The lines track league rank only: an upward slope does not measure the number of extra points earned, and a downward slope does not describe a team's knockout results. Team colours identify the lines, with text labels at both ends so colour is not the sole cue.

For the underlying figures, open the IPL 2026 points table. Comparing positions is a quick overview; comparing points, wins and NRR explains why the order changed. The same ten franchises appear in both seasons, so no expansion adjustment is needed for this particular comparison.

Individual honours

IPL 2025 awards

Orange cricket cap illustration

Sai Sudharsan · 759 runs

Gujarat Titans' batter won the Orange Cap.

Purple cricket cap illustration

Prasidh Krishna · 25 wickets

Gujarat Titans' bowler won the Purple Cap.

Suryakumar Yadav of Mumbai Indians received the season's MVP award. These honours measure different achievements: aggregate runs, wickets and the season award are distinct from both league leadership and the championship. Gujarat supplied both cap winners but finished third in the league, while RCB took the title. Krunal Pandya's final award is a match-specific honour and should not be confused with Suryakumar's season recognition.

Historical identities

Teams of 2025

The 2025 field contained 10 teams. This archive uses the names from that season, including earlier franchise identities where applicable. Renaming a team in a modern feed does not rewrite an old season: Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Bangalore are retained in the appropriate years. Gujarat Lions and Gujarat Titans are not the same historical entry. The current IPL teams guide covers today's names, grounds and leadership.

Mumbai Indians had the highest league NRR at +1.142, finishing in position 4. That statistic is shown alongside the full field rather than treated as an alternative title. Team counts also matter: compare the number of matches played before treating a points total as equivalent across two different seasons.

Move back one year to compare the previous league order, or forward one year to see the next completed season. The archive keeps league results separate from title winners. The 2025 table in perspective

Punjab Kings led the league with 19 points; Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the championship. The top-four boundary was 16 points, but that figure is an observed result for this season, not a guaranteed qualification rule for another year. Use the recorded wins, no results and NRR together when comparing equal-points teams.

FAQ

QUICK ANSWERS
Who topped the IPL 2025 points table?

Punjab Kings, with 19 points from 14 matches (9 wins, 4 losses, 1 no result) and a net run rate of 0.372. Royal Challengers Bengaluru also had 19 points and nine wins but a lower NRR of 0.301.

Which teams qualified for the IPL 2025 playoffs?

Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans (18 points) and Mumbai Indians (16). Delhi Capitals finished fifth with 15 points, one short of the top four.

Who won IPL 2025?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who beat Punjab Kings by 6 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on 3 June 2025. Krunal Pandya was Player of the Match and 91,419 spectators attended.

Which team had the best net run rate in IPL 2025?

Mumbai Indians, with 1.142 — the best in the league — but they finished fourth on 16 points, because points and wins come before NRR.

Why are Lucknow Super Giants above Kolkata Knight Riders in 2025 with a worse NRR?

Both had 12 points, but Lucknow won six matches and Kolkata five (Kolkata had two no results). The IPL ranks teams level on points by wins first, so NRR was not needed.
